Helping You Break the Cycle
Restore Your Quality of Life
The most effective addiction treatment plans combine counseling and detoxification, which is the process of completely cleansing a patient’s body of drugs and alcohol. At Restorative, substance abuse therapy involves either individual or group sessions with a licensed substance abuse counselor in Kansas City. Individual counseling provides a patient with one-on-one sessions during which a licensed counselor helps them understand the basis of their addiction and learn coping mechanisms to help them overcome the desire to use drugs and alcohol.
Group therapy allows patients with common substance abuse issues to meet in a support-group setting with a licensed counselor. These group sessions allow participants to hold each other accountable and help each member resist relapse on their journey to becoming addiction-free.
We also offer an alternative addiction treatment called Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as well as the BRIDGE device for detox to help with pain during withdrawal. Vivitrol is a medication commonly administered to help patients resist relapse and overcome alcohol and opioid addiction.
What is Addiction?
Addiction is a dependence on a particular substance or behavior that is uncontrollable and extremely difficult to quit, even though the addicted individual may have every intent to. Over time, an addiction can pose serious threats to an individual’s mental and physical well-being. Engagement with the addictive behavior or substance can interfere with and negatively impact an individual’s relationships, work performance, and social life, and even lead to legal problems.
There are many substances and behaviors one can become addicted to. Some of the most common ones include:
What Causes Addiction?
Addiction results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. If an individual is surrounded by others who are addicted to a certain behavior or substance, they are at a higher risk of becoming addicted as well. Some addictive substances alter brain chemistry, changing the mechanism through which the brain experiences pleasure and causing the addicted individual to increasingly crave the substance. This is known as a physical addiction and commonly occurs with substances such as alcohol and opioids.
